The Friends of the Estherville Public Library began a project in July of 2000. We constructed a large wooden flag that hangs on the balcony of the library during the Fourth of July holiday. Inserted in the flag are bulbs, each representing a donation of $5.00 given in memory of or in honor of a special person. The list of those people honored is posted inside the library for a few weeks before the Fourth of July and then the list is posted in the east entry windows of the library during the holiday itself.
