FREE COMPUTER CLASSES
The Estherville Public Library will be offering free computer classes on Tuesdays from 10:30am-12:00 pm starting September 13, 2011 Registration is required for each class as space is limited. Please register with the Children's Department at (712) 362-7731. You're strongly encouraged to bring your own laptop. Dates and topics are as follows:
September 13: Introduction to the computer. Introduce yourself to the basics of computer technology. Learn about the parts of the computer, how to turn it on and off; opening and resizing, basic computer maintenance, virus protection, and learn what all those icons on the computer mean.
September 20: Mouse Basics. Learn how to hold, move, click a mouse, scroll, highlight words, and other tricks.
September 27: Introduction to the internet. An introduction to the basic features of the Internet, getting connected, using a web browser, navigating web pages, performing simple searches, as well as how to print and store information.
October 4: Introduction to email. Sign-up for FREE email service, obtain an email address, learn how to send and receive email.
October 11: Introduction to the Estherville Public Library website and catalog. This class will take you on a tour of our Apollo catalog. Learn how to find the library materials you need, reserve and renew library materials, and manage your library account online.
October 18th: Wilbor and Basic EbscoHost. Access to FREE audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, newspapers, and journals 24/7. Learn how to install the free software, transfer to a portable device, and how to burn to a CD. Nook and e-readers welcome to attend.
October 25th: Basic Windows. A basic review of the Windows operating system. Learn how to customize, improve and organize your computer by managing files, folders and more!
November 1th: Basic Word. Learn how to create, edit, print, and save documents and reports using Microsoft Word.
November 8st: Basic Publisher. Learn to create pamphlets, flyers, and other creative documents through desktop publishing.
November 15: Basic Excel. An introduction to the basic features of Microsoft Excel, a spreadsheet program designed for the Windows environment. Topics include entering data and formulas, moving and copying data, formatting and print previewing worksheets.
November 22th: Basic PowerPoint. Learn to start PowerPoint, create a presentation, copy a slide from one presentation into another, create a specified type of slide, delete slides, change the layout for one or more slides, apply formatting, preview and save a new presentation.
November 29nd: Basic Social Networking. Learn about online social networks and explore some of the most popular websites including Facebook, Twitter, and blogs.
December 6th: Digital Scrapbooking. Now you have the photos, what do you do with them? Find inspiration, tips, and links/websites to get you started. Try scrapbooking without the mess!
December 13th: Coffee, Tea, and Wii. A fun introduction to interactive gaming. Come try your hand at Wii bowling as we wrap up computer classes.
